Some people simply have nothing going on in their lives. Which is fine. Not everyone has the luxury of television, or the Internet or readily available porn. Norris Sydnor III is apparently one of those people. After being forced — forced! I tell you — to pay one dollar extra for a manicure based solely on the fact of his mannish man hands, Sydnor is on a civil rights crusade, suing Rich’s Nail Salon for $200,000.
“I was angry. I was humiliated,” claimed Sydnor. “The big deal is that I feel like I’m being discriminated based on my gender. There’s nothing to say that my hands or my nails are different than a woman’s nails. Nobody measured my hands, no one measured my fingernails.”
Sydnor’s lawyer, Jimmy Bell — in need of a challenge or at least a chuckle — maintains his client’s righteous indignation, stating: “Rosa Parks paid the same amount of money but was required to sit in the back of the bus. My client paid more money for less services because he didn’t get polish, he didn’t get clear to go over the polish.”
The 43-year-old manny-loving man spoke to his local Fox affiliate and poured a decently-manicured finger –you get what you pay for — over the salons catalog, which details in not-the-best English the price disparity between women and men.
A judge has issued an injunction ordering the salon not to charge men more money than women for its services, with the case set to go to trial July 21.
What’s sad is that Sydnor probably has a good chance at winning this — though I doubt anyone would give him $200,00 in damages for a goddamn $10 manicure — that is unless Rich’s Nail Salon can prove that Sydnor’s and the average man’s nail beds are larger or require more work than a lady’s.
And considering Sydnor’s size — big guys like nice nails too — that might not prove so hard. [HuffPo]
