Celebrate World Music Day With Us!

To celebrate World Music Day, we’re bringing you all the top five songs to influence the globe. Check them out here and celebrate decades of music with us!

Who doesn’t know about The Beatles?! One of their most popular tracks, “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” attracted fans from all sorts of demographics. It was the band’s first song to hit the top 100 on the Billboards. It sold better in its first 10 days of release in the US than any other British single, and remains the best-selling Beatles single in the United States, moving over 12 million copies. We’re sure this hit will continue to be a favorite for generations to come.

With a subject that is definitely universal, we’re not surprised that this song gained worldwide recognition. This was the first of Franklin’s songs to chart in England. Her line, “Sock it to me,” became a catch phrase on several television shows. Oh, and that line that no one understands after she spells out “respect?” It’s “Take care, TCB!” And TCB means Taking Care of Business. This is one of the most misunderstood song lyrics of all time!

Bon Jovi’s inspirational lyrics in “Living On A Prayer” made this single one of the most successful and widely known as they come.  Used in several television shows and movies, the track was successful in both the UK and New Zealand as well as the US. The song is about a working couple struggling to make ends meet and Jovi said he was inspired by the economy and society during the time he was writing the hit.

We all watched Slumdog Millionaire (If you didn’t, go watch it) and repeatedly heard A.R. Rahman’s instant hit, “Jai Ho.” Though the song is not sung in English, the beat and the background story from the movie quickly made this song a popular hit… whether you understood it or not! Fans love the style of the music within the song and, of course, the dance number that comes with it. Nicole Scherzinger also remixed the song with the famous composer and now she’s gone Bollywood doing remixes of her own with us!

We are a huge fan of MJ, and of this track that is one of the few songs to have sold over 10 million copies worldwide! With lyrics written straight from the heart, this record has been used worldwide for various benefits and special events. Even after the passing of the pop sensation, “We Are The World” continues to be one of the most popular and respected tracks written by the singer.

We hope you enjoyed this trip back in time and don’t forget to be appreciative of the music we have in our lives that keeps us going everyday! Let us know which song was your favorite!

Kalki Koechlin clears airs about rift between herself and Katrina Kaif

Kalki Koechlin was last seen in ‘Shaitan’ and she received mixed reviews for her performance in the film. Now, she has her eyes set on much awaited ‘Zindagi Mile Na Dobara’. Recently, gossip columns have been abuzz with the news of Kalki having complex with her co-star Katrina Kaif and that she doesn’t get along well with her.

However, Kalki has strongly denied such rumors and says, “There have been a lot of people picking on us that me and Kat are fighting. I think it is really sad because not one person has come and asked me what I think, they have just kind of assumed. There are no issues.”

Kalki has been actively participating in the promotional campaign of the film and was seen at the PVR Cinemas in Ambience mall, Gurgaon, along with Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, director Zoya Akhtar and Farhan’s production partner Ritesh Sidhwani.

Kalki’s next project is once again with her Dev D co-star Abhay Deol and she claims that the movie is a different one. “I don’t want to be labelled or trapped, my job is to change and adapt to everything that comes. And it’s exciting that I am doing something different,” she said.

Culture Shock is ‘Party Rockin’ with H-Dhami in the New Dub

Culture Shock has a brand new dub for us this week! This one features UK Bhangra artist, H-Dhami.  The trio’s dub is of LMFAO’s hit song, “Party Rock Anthem.” We think the guys did a phenomenal job, and bringing on H-Dhami was a great idea. Perhaps more tracks featuring H-Dhami and Culture Shock are on the way? We’re not too sure about that one, but we do know that this dub is our favorite so far.

We even like this dub better than LMFAO’s original version. The track features some Bhangra and Urban Desi flair that has us all singing along. Are you a fan of this week’s new track? Give us your feedback!

Ileana D’Cruz to portray shades of all ages in ‘Barfee’

Ileana D’Cruz, who carved her niche in South with superhit Pokkiri, is making her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfee’. Ranbir Kapoor is playing the male lead and since his character is named Murphy who pronounces it as barfee because he is mute, the film has been titled so. Interestingly, Ileana will get to portray her talents well in the flick because she will be seen aging from a 19-year-old to a 65-year-old.

Basu divulges in further details saying, “All the three lead actors are playing out-of-the-box, and extremely interesting characters in Barfee.”

“Ranbir Kapoor, as everyone knows, is playing a deaf and mute boy, Priyanka Chopra is not mentally-challenged as reported, but is mildly autistic (a form of mental illness that causes a person to withdraw into a private world of fantasy and be unable to communicate with others or respond to his/her real environment) in the film. Ileana D’Cruz, on the other hand, is playing a character who will be seen aging from a 19-year-old to 30 to a 65 year-old,” he added.

The shooting for the flick has already started on June 14 at Darjeeling which happens to be Ranbir’s hometown.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Divorce update

Maria Shriver formally filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger on Friday, July 1. The couple had been married for 25 years, and have four children together. Arnold Schwarzenegger is eager to reach a speedy divorce settlement with estranged wife, Maria Shriver because the former Governor of California wants to return to his acting career.  Arnold wants to be back on a set making movies, make no bones about that. He wants to put this chapter of his life behind him, and make hit movies.

“Arnold has been talking to studio executives about his comeback. He wants to star with Tom Arnold in a possible True Lies sequel. Both actors are trying to make that happen. The script has been written, it’s just a matter of lining up a director, the primary choice would be James Cameron because he did the first one.”

If a divorce settlement is reached in the next few months, the divorce could be finalized by the end of the year, something Shriver and Schwarzenegger are both trying to achieve.

Esha Deol to perform on Sholay’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan….’ | Tell me O KKhuda

Despite a beautiful face and figure and superstars Hema Mailni and Dharmendra as her parents, Esha Deol could not make a strong foothold in this industry. So, mom Hema took up the responsibility of re-launch of her daughter and is directing and producing ‘Tell Me O Khuda’ featuring Esha in the lead role. Produced under the banner of H.M. Creations, the movie also stars Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Arjan Bajwa, Farooq Sheikh, Deepti Naval among others.

It is but natural that Esha is super excited about the film which is set to release this year itself. The movie will also have Esha in a special song that will be played in the end during the credit roll. The song is none other than the popular track from the blockbuster movie ‘Sholay’ (”Jab Tak Hai Jaan”..) which was picturized on Hema and Dharmendra and happens to be Esha’s favorite. Once Hema purchases the rights for this song, the shooting will be started. The song will also feature Hema and Dharmendra along with Esha, of course.

Bollywood and Hollywood Get Red Hot with Their Outfits!

We have been noticing the recurring trend of Hollywood and Bollywood stars wearing red lately, and we decided it would be fun to look at what is hot and what is not so flattering. Help us decide in the next few pictures, who wears the red trend well, and who needs a new stylist.

First, we have the young Hollywood beauty, Jessica Alba above, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana dress on the red carpet. While this designer is greatly admired, we are not feeling this kooky dress. It’s got a weirdly detailed belt-type-thing, and widened thighs that just look odd. While it is certainly a high-fashion dress, it’s going to need something more (or less) for it to be considered “red hot.” What do you think about this one?

Next, we see a Bollywood star on the show ‘India’s Most Desirable,’ Deepika Padukone, in a one-shoulder dress with one long sleeve. While this is a simple look, we think simple is sometimes the best when it comes to bold colors like red, and Deepika wears it well. She is definitely red hot; do you agree with us?

We then looked at another Hollywood actress, Marisa Tomei, who wore a Donna Karan mini dress on the People’s Choice Awards red carpet. The strapless number has a form-fitting top half, and it is slightly detailed from the waist to the knee. Marisa paired it with a pretty necklace and matching clutch, and we think she is definitely red hot. Do you think so, too, or do you have a different opinion?

Imran Khan stands up against the raised age bar for alcohol consumption

Imran has said he would file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the court because he feels that it is unconstitutional for the government to bar a person’s freedom of choice despite being an adult.

“I will go to court. I will launch Facebook campaign on Power to You. I met a lot of people and heard a lot of discussion but no one does anything. It is a problem with this country,” he said.

“If the government things that you are an adult at 21, then they should allow you all the rights of an adult,” he added.

“I would request the entire country to support me. I want the people of this state and the nation to be with me. It [government move] is dangerous, personal freedom is being limited. “Ultimately where will it stop?” he asked.

Senior actor Amitabh Bachchan also seems to support Imran in his view as posting on his Twitter account, he said, “Also, on drinking age limit increase to 25 ! Err .. old and mature enough to vote for the country, or join army and fight for the nation … but not old and mature enough to be told when you are allowed to drink ???? Strange ?!!!!”
