Educationists, intellectuals’ support vital to improve education standard: Pir

KARACHI: Senior Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq called upon the educationists, intellectuals and experts for the upliftment of standard and quality of education in the province as well as in the country.A sincere, honest and gigantic effort is needed to overhaul the system of education for a better future of the country, he said while speaking at lifetime achievement award ceremony of Alumni Association of Government College Hyderabad at Royal Rodale Club here on Saturday.Awards were presented to former Governor State Bank of Pakistan and IBA Chairman, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Educationist and Burucrate and former Vice Chancellor Sindh University Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Senior Cricket Reporter and Writer Qamar Ahmed and Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq for their achievements for the college.We needed the support of experts and dedicated persons for better and quality of education and preparing better breed of students for the future of the country, he said.Pir Mazhar said Dr.Ishrat Hussain, Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui and Qamar Ahmed are role models and great examples for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields.He expressed the hope that future generations will learn from their experiences and achievements and try to emulate them, particularly make endeavors to excel in education. Traffic rules education week launched

LAHORE:THE Lahore Traffic Police from Friday launched ‘Education Week’ in collaboration with a petroleum company to educate and guide citizens about traffic rules and regulation.


This was announced in a seminar held in a local hotel on Friday. CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmad Mobeen, DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik, LDA DG and Lahore DCO were also present.


The CCPO lauded the efforts of the City Traffic Police for launching the campaign for the awareness of road users to decrease the ratio of road accidents.


CTO Ahmad Mobeen said that during the ‘Education Week’0.8 million pamphlets and gifts with writings on them about traffic rules would be distributed among the citizens.


He appealed to teachers, parents and other circles of society to play their role in guiding the citizens about traffic rules and regulations. The CTO said that more than 1,600 streamers would also be displayed on different roads.The news.

Devolution of Education Ministry criticised
Rawalpindi, July 02: Pakistan Green Task Force Chairman Dr. Jamal Nasir has criticised the devolution of Ministry of Education and termed it a conspiracy against the people of Pakistan and said uniformity in the education system is the only solution of all issues.


“We can attain the goal of progress and prosperity by educating our young generation without any discrimination of cast, creed and colour. The current education system based on social status is spoiling the future of intelligent deserving students,” he stated this while addressing a seminar organised by Private Schools Network, says a press release issued here on Friday.


Dr. Jamal said that discrimination in the education system has disappointed the youngsters and also badly affected the carrier of new generation. He said: “We can bring revolution through promotion of education from grassroots level, the present conditions of our public sector educational institution is dilapidated and besides up gradation of these institutions it is imperative to provide a suitable and congenial atmosphere in which students could excel their capabilities and talent.”

The News Education Expo ends after grand show
Lahore: The News Education Expo 11 attracting a large number of visitors on its second day concluded here on Tuesday.


Most of the students who visited the expo were also accompanied by their parents who showed a keen interest in the event and explored stalls to select institutes for their studies.


The two-day mega educational event, organised by the Jang Media Group, had started on Monday and thousands of people visited it. The halls of the PC Hotel remained jam-packed with a large number of people who were seen collecting information from stalls.


Tauseef, a visiting student, said the expo had proved more useful than his expectation as free information about academic programmes of universities was available there. He said it was a great experience to see representatives of so many universities under one roof.


A number of other visitors also lauded the efforts of the Jang Group for organizing the event just ahead of admission season.


Bilal Malik, assistant marketing manager of CFE Group of Colleges, termed the expo a right platform to directly interact with the target audience.


“The event also provided us with an opportunity to present a complete picture of CFE Group of Colleges,” he added.


Assistant Director of STEP Institute, Wajiha Daud, said that her institute had received a good response from students in the expo. She, however, said that most of the students lacked a focused approach towards their future academic plans, and added, “We did our best to guide them in this regard too.”


Cultural Affairs Officer at US Consulate, Lahore, Kathryn Kiser, who was present at the stall of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) appreciated the efforts of the organisers and termed The News Education Expo 11 a good experience. She said education in the US was really challenging academically owing to which it was a favourite destination for many international students, including those from Pakistan. She was of the view that student exchange programmes between the US and Pakistan should be promoted. She said the USEFP and the Education USA had their active presence in Pakistan and were guiding the students for their future academic plans in the US.


Sahar Sadiq, student development executive of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), said her organisation was the UK-based and had presence in 168 countries, including Pakistan. She said it was good to see lots of students and most of them were accompanied by their parents which showed interest and confidence of people in the expo.


SKANS School of Accountancy’s manager marketing Mahvash Khan also said it was good to see parents discussing future academic plans of their children.


Nadeem Alvi, who introduced himself as programme coordinator of Pharmacy Department at the Hajvery University, said the students were provided with detailed information about various academic programmes offered by his university. He said free blood group, blood sugar and BMI tests of the visitors were also conducted by the Pharmacy Department of the Hajvery University in the expo.


Ejaz Rahi, education counselling manager at Falcon Education and Consultancy Services (Pvt) Ltd, also termed the expo a great success and said the visitors were given free briefing on the UK education policy and other admission-related information.

Increasing literacy: Quality education for Baloch youth top priority

ISLAMABAD: 

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has launched a comprehensive quality education programme for the youth of Balochistan at a cost of Rs250 million. The programme, which aims to increase literacy in the province, has been initiated in Kharan, Khuzdar, Musa Khel, Jhal Magsi, Kohlu, Awaran and Panjgur districts.

Over 12,000 students are enrolled in different schools under the programme. Out of these students, 7,700 are males and 4,400 are females.

PPAF has also established 31 community schools so far, while it has adopted 145 public schools and provided water, furniture, repair, renovation, teachers’ training and activation of school management committees in these districts. Similarly, the institution is providing financial support for fees, books, uniforms and stationery to over 3,000 students under the Chamalang Education Programme in Kohlu district.

The organisation has also arranged regular trips for students as a part of its initiative to expose these students to the diverse culture of the country. Currently 80 students from grade five to twelve are visiting Fort Munro, Ghazi Ghat Bridge in Multan, historical landmarks in Lahore, Military College Jhelum and Mangla Power House and Water Sports Club under the programme.

PPAF, a private sector institution, is one of the most prominent institutions working for development in the country and the largest source of pro-poor spending excluding Public Sector Development Programme. The organisation enjoys the support of Government of Pakistan, World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development, United States Department of Agriculture, USAID, KfW (a German government-owned development bank) and the US Corporate Sector.

The institution’s outreach extends all over the country and its development programmes have been widely recognised. PPAF has received a positive response from donors as well.
